From Skeptic to Believer: One Woman’s Journey into the World of Reiki


Reiki is an ancient healing practice originating from Japan that has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is a holistic approach that involves the transfer of energy through the practitioner’s hands to the client to promote healing and relaxation.

For those who have not experienced Reiki, it may seem like a mystical and obscure practice. I was one of those skeptics until I had a life-changing encounter with a Reiki practitioner.

I had been dealing with chronic anxiety and depression for years and was desperate for a solution. Traditional therapies and medications were not providing the relief I needed, so I turned to alternative methods. This is when I stumbled upon Reiki.

At first, I was hesitant to try it. I was afraid it was a hoax or possibly even harmful. However, my desperation for a solution was stronger than my skepticism, so I decided to give it a try.

I remember feeling nervous as I entered the Reiki practitioner’s office. I had no idea what to expect, but I was greeted with a calming atmosphere and a warm smile from the practitioner.

The treatment started with me lying down on a massage table fully clothed while the practitioner placed her hands on or near my body, directing energy to specific areas where it was needed.

As the treatment began, I felt a sense of relaxation I had never experienced before. My mind quieted, my body loosened, and my breathing slowed. It was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

During the session, I also experienced what is known as Reiki’s “sensation of heat.” The practitioner’s hands felt warm, yet there was no physical contact, which was surprising.

As the session came to a close, I felt a renewed sense of peace and calm, something I hadn’t experienced for years. I left feeling lighter, more centered, and more peaceful than I had in a long time.

I became a regular client of my Reiki practitioner, and over time, my anxiety and depression symptoms began to decrease. I also started to notice a positive shift in my overall sense of wellbeing, which was an incredibly remarkable outcome.

The practice of Reiki may seem mystical or unapproachable, but it has been transformative in my life. It was a journey from being a skeptic to now embracing the practice and incorporating it into my life.
